My husband is a combat veteran, honorably discharged this past March after 6 1/2 years active duty Army, and three year long Iraq deployments in that time. We have two young sons, 8 and 4. He was laid off of his job Nov 9th, and immediately got hired as an overnight stocker at Walmart, but the night before he was to start his new job, he totaled his motorcycle, broke his ankle, and dislocated his knee. Will need several surgeries. I just applied for medicaid, food stamps and a (VERY) small check, $260 a month, but it might be a month before I get an answer. Our car was repossessed in July. Without a car I can't do the work seeking that DSS requires. I paid $14 to get there today, we can't afford to do that three times a week. They told me they don't have any exceptions for people with no transportation. Our rent is $360 behind. We may actually be evicted just in time for Christmas. The VA has been of no help. If anyone knows where we might get rent assistance or electric/utility assistance, please let me know. Our lights are to be off Tuesday the 6th, and cable/net/phone the following Friday, though by then it won't really matter. THANK YOU!
